12/1980
Photo by my youngest sis (using my Polaroid SX-70; back then they said Polaroids wouldn't last more than 15 - 20 years) of me and my eldest brother in front of the Uniroyal tire.
The Uniroyal Giant Tire, roadside I-94 coming into Detroit from Metro Airport. It was originally a ferris wheel at the 1964/65 NY State World's Fair. Renovated in 1994 with updated treads and newer hubcap. Updated again in 1998 with a giant nail in the tire to resemble the new NailGard tire. Updated again in 2003 (no more nail).

What a great shot. I love the decay of the polaroid. I nver knew that about the tire. I have driven past it a few times so I know the exact spot. Great post.
p.s. I was in the 8th grade. My favorite album was AC/DC Back in Black.
Did your family actually come to Detroit for vacation?
8th grade - I bought Pink Floyd's album "Meddle," which I still have (can't toss the vinyl).
No, I only saw the tire more recently. I was in 8th grade when your photo was taken.
Come check out my new project if you have time. http://www.oswegan.com/
Great photo. You look so lovely. The slight fade of the photo does not hide the fact you were obviously gorgeous. The sort of beauty that has a looooonnnnngggg use by date!!
Hi DD - Great picture! Thanks for coming to visit me - thought I'd drop by and check out what you're posting. Excellent photos!
Oswegan: Thanks for rubbing my nose in it!! :-D I'll be by to check out your new project.
Linda: You are always so kind. I'm going to print out your comments and post them around my house for daily affirmations!
VC: Thanks for coming by. This blog is just starting out and should morph into something eventually; I'm going through "artist's block" at the moment.
I must say I wonder about the size of the care that had that tire...
The tire, I believe, is about 8 stories high, so the car....
